musicologie

Musicoloog dr. Ari van Vliet deed onderzoek naar leven en werken van de Franse gitarist/componist Napoléon Coste (1805-1883). Coste vestigde zich eind 1828 in Parijs, was vriend van Fernando Sor, gaf concerten als gitaarvirtuoos en componeerde een oeuvre van 53 opusnummers. In 2015 is de biografie van de romantisch musicus verschenen onder de titel:

Napoléon Coste: componist en gitarist in het muziekleven van het 19e-eeuwse Parijs

als dissertatie bij het verkrijgen van de graad van doctor aan de Universiteit Utrecht door Ari van Vliet.

Het boek is uitgegeven in het Nederlands en in het Engels, en bestaat uit twee delen, een biografie over leven en werken van Coste en een thematische catalogus van alle werken van de componist, voorzien van beschrijvende analyses. Bij de biografie behoort een compact disc met de belangrijkste werken van Coste, Souvenirs opus 17-23, Fantaisie symphonique opus 28[b] (eerste opname) en Le Passage des Alpes opus 27, 28 & 40, uitgevoerd door Ari van Vliet op een Kresse kopie van de Lacôte heptacorde gitaar van Coste.

Als musicus en musicoloog verzorgt dr Ari van Vliet lezingen, concerten, publicaties en artikelen over de geschiedenis van de gitaar: guitarcheology.
